A physician who speaks in images
There are images that don’t ask permission — they simply arrive and break you open. I’m Alejandra, a physician from Colombia who picked up a camera in 2020 and has never quite put it down. My first real photograph was of a glass frog, deep in the Chocó rainforest, through a lens borrowed from my husband Federico Espinosa — the person who first taught me to truly see.
Timeless moments in
Every photograph
Before crossing borders, I crossed my own country. Colombia is not one place — it is dozens of ecosystems stacked on top of each other, each with its own light, its own creatures, its own logic. I traveled its rivers, its highlands, its jungles, and its plains looking for animals that exist nowhere else on earth. My favorite corner of it all? The Llanos Orientales — vast, wild, and quietly extraordinary. And it was in the Chocó, that impossibly biodiverse corridor, where I came face to face with one of the most astonishing creatures I have ever encountered: Phyllobates terribilis, the golden poison dart frog — the most toxic vertebrate on the planet. Standing that close to something so small and so lethal felt like a privilege I still haven’t fully processed. In 2022, Federico gave me my own camera. That was the moment everything became real.
Since then, I’ve chased light across continents. I’ve waited in silence for a coyote to cross a meadow in Yellowstone. I’ve stood in the Pantanal and wept openly at the sight of a jaguar moving through the reeds. I’ve photographed the auroras of Iceland, the towers of Patagonia, the savannahs of Kenya. Each place, each animal, each fraction of a second has asked the same thing of me: pay attention. I photograph wildlife and nature because I believe empathy can be learned through images. My hope is simple — that whoever sees my work feels what I felt standing there, and loves this world a little more because of it. Today, I’m proud to be a partner at Keepy Nature Tours, a travel and photography agency built around exactly this philosophy: that connecting with the natural world is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. My favorite subjects? Wolves, dogs, and every wild creature in between. For me, a photograph is not documentation — it is an act of love, and an invitation for others to feel the same.
